On Saturday, August 14 the Haitian government declared a state of emergency after at least 304 people died in a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti.
Rescue groups on the ground assessed the damage. There is "significant damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure," according to American Red Cross spokeswoman Katie Wilkes.

130,000 houses destroyed or damaged, 24,400 people displaced 650,000 people requiring humanitarian assistance.
Disaster Aid USA teams assessed the situation and were immediately in contact with Haitian and Emergency officials. Shelter, clean water, medical supplies, and numerous other emergency aid items were provided by Disaster Aid USA.
